Root

This is your drive "C" on your computer. This is also known as your root directory. If you were not around for the beginning of the computer age, this should explain the file directory structure, also known as the tree. Another well-known name for a directory is file folder. Most of you just starting into computing may call directories, files or folders. I'm going to refer to them as directories and subdirectories, only because that is what they are. This picture would represent your physical drive C with nothing on it. Click on this C:\ directory to show an added directory to the root.
